Cosmetic Dentistry Enhances Your Smile and Confidence
Innovations in dental technology have made a trip to the dentist’s office an entirely new experience for millions of Americans – thanks to a relatively new field called cosmetic dentistry.
The main goal of traditional dentistry is to keep your teeth healthy and free of disease and decay; cosmetic dentistry takes dental care to a whole new level, with a concentration on enhancing the overall look of your teeth. With cosmetic dentistry, even getting a cavity filled can be an opportunity to improve your smile.
When you improve the appearance of your smile, you also boost your confidence. Research has proven that people who have attractive smiles are often considered more personable and friendly, and even more intelligent and successful. A smile is our window to the world, and it’s the first thing that makes an impression on people we meet. Therefore, it’s no wonder that more and more people are turning to cosmetic dentists to improve their smiles.
If you are self-conscious about misaligned, overcrowded, or gapped teeth, Invisalign® can straighten your smile in a comfortable and inconspicuous manner. During treatment, you will wear a series of custom-made, clear aligners that straighten your teeth over the course of several months. Every six weeks or so, Dr. Dillard can evaluate your progress to ensure that your smile is transitioning correctly. So whether you want to fix a chipped tooth or get a complete smile makeover, we can help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted. For decades, having a cavity filled meant contending with a dark spot in your smile because of the metal composition of filling material. Today, however, Dr. Dillard fills a cavity with composite resin, which is a blend of medical grade plastics and glass. This material is shaded to match the color of your tooth, so your smile looks as good as ever. And even better—a tooth colored filling strengthens the remaining tooth structure.
The same composite resin material that is used for a tooth- colored filling can also be used to repair minor smile imperfections such as a chipped tooth or one that is permanently stained or discolored. Dr. Dillard simply takes a small amount of the resin and molds it to reshape or cover a darkened tooth. The material is applied and dried with a special curing light. If necessary, more than one layer can be put on to achieve the ideal shape.
For a smile that is marred by a number of different flaws—chips, cracks, breaks, and discoloration—there are porcelain veneers. These modern dental wonders are paper-thin coverings of dental porcelain that Dr. Dillard designs to restore a beautiful smile. Each veneer is custom crafted to correct the flaw of a specific tooth. Together, they create a beautiful new smile that you’ll confidently want to share.
