As incredible as dentistry can be, many patients are a little bit intimidated when they step into their dentist’s office. When they think about fixing their smile, they think about dental implants, root canals, and even extractions.

While those procedures aren’t really as scary as they’re made out to be, it’s not necessarily unreasonable to want to be conservative with your dental care. If you have pre-existing health problems, for example, it may be important to you to keep your dental care on the less invasive side.

Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to improve your smile without surgery. Here are a few examples of non-invasive improvements you can make.

Take-Home Teeth Whitening

Take-home professional teeth whitening kits are simple and convenient, but they can still give you remarkable results. By placing a bleaching solution into a set of custom-fit trays and placing them on your teeth for a few hours a day, you can get a smile up to eight shades whiter within just a few weeks!

So long as you don’t have any cavities and you have thick enough enamel, there’s no real risk of the whitening solution seeping too far below the surface of your teeth.

Direct Bonding

If you have chips, cracks, or anything else that bothers you about the shape of your teeth, your dentist can carefully sculpt you a new smile! Your dentist can layer a tooth-colored composite resin onto your teeth and use a specialized light to cure it into place. There’s no need to penetrate below the surface of the tooth, but you can still get incredible results.

Invisalign

While there’s no shortage of people who want to straighten their smile, many patients are a little uncomfortable spending a year with brackets glued to their teeth. Invisalign aligners can straighten your smile much less invasively—the fact that they’re removable makes them easier to clean, and eliminates the dietary restrictions that come with traditional braces.

As you can see, dentistry doesn’t have to be intense or invasive. If you’re squeamish about dentistry but want to improve your smile, these treatments are all great places to start.
